One of the most common symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis is impaired vision. Symptoms include misty or blurred vision and can extend all the way to the loss of vision in one eye (transient primarily unilateral blindness), or even blindness in both eyes (bilateral blindness).
Diminished visual acuity (quality of vision), which cannot be corrected by wearing glasses, may also occur. Other visual-related symptoms of MS include seeing ‘double images’ if demyelination takes place around the eye muscles. Visual disturbances sometimes lead to dizziness, as in cases of nystagmus; an involuntary rapid backward movement of the eyeballs, which occurs when looking sideways.
